Socialist Queens Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani has raked in a sizable $642,339 in the latest fundraising period, getting checks from 6,502 unique donors, his team announced Tuesday.
Eighty-four percent of the donations, many from first-time donors, came from within New York City, and the median amount was $50, according to the campaign.
His campaign estimated at least $300,000 will be matched by the city’s 8:1 public financing program, bringing in an additional $2.4 million.
“This is beyond our highest expectations,” Mamdani said. “It’s not just the raw donations from the breath and diversity of the donors.”
Mamdani’s campaign, which has used splashy social media posts and affordability initiatives to try to draw in new voters, has been viewed by many as a longshot bid for mayor due to his far-left positioning.

During the final day of the period, which ended last Saturday, the campaign raised $81,000 — which Mamdani said showed him the mayoral campaign won’t burn out anytime soon.
“Working class New Yorkers all across the political spectrum are tired from being fed the same policies and excuses for why their life can’t get any better,” the Queens lawmaker said, naming a rent freeze, free buses and universal childcare as some of his top issues.
Mamdani launched his campaign in October and did not transfer money over from his state account. His campaign disclosed the numbers ahead of Wednesday’s public fundraising disclosure deadline.
Before this latest round of disclosures, only former City Comptroller Scott Stringer’s campaign had become eligible for matching funds. Most other mayoral candidates had not yet met the threshold required to become eligible for matching funds this week, while Mayor Adams was denied the funds due to his ongoing federal corruption case.
State Sen. Zellnor Myrie has now raised enough money to unlock over $2.3 million in public matching funds with a total of $647,449 since his campaign launch, and Jim Walden, a lawyer, raised nearly $630,000 for his campaign in the most recent reporting period.
