The Red Sox officially made the Alex Bregman signing official Saturday morning.
Boston announced in a press release that it signed Bregman to a three-year contract through the 2027 season. The press release also noted that the 30-year-old will wear No. 2. The last player to wear the number was Dominic Smith last season. But of course, late legend Jerry Remy donned the jersey number from 1978-84.
To make room on the 40-man roster, left-handed pitcher Patrick Sandoval was placed on the 60-day injured list.
The Red Sox and Bregman reportedly agreed to a three-year $120 million deal Wednesday. The contract reportedly included multiple key details like deferrals and opt-outs. The two-time World Series champion arrived in Fort Myers, Fla., on Friday and also posted a heartfelt goodbye to the Houston Astros before his signing became official.
Boston will hold a news conference Sunday at 8:30 a.m. ET at Fenway South. Bregman, president Sam Kennedy, chief baseball officer Craig Breslow, manager Alex Cora and agent Scott Boras will be available. You can check out the news conference on NESN and NESN 360.
