10:15 p.m.: And that’s a wrap from Ball Arena.
Three days of pins, points and punishment have come to a close. The Pomona boys reign supreme once again. Traven Sharon has joined the four-timers club, after honoring a lost friend. And more than a few wrestlers got the redemption they spent the last year chasing — just not all of them.
Find all of the championship results below, including the team scores.
And we’ll meet you back here again next February.
9:15 p.m.: The Phoenix — a combined Western Slope team based out of Grand Junction Central — won the girls’ 5A team title for Central’s first team title in any sport since 2002.
The Phoenix placed two girls in the finals, but neither came away with gold. At 155 pounds, Brighton’s Matilda Hruby overpowered Shylee Tuzon and stuck her 22 seconds into the third period. At 170 pounds, Thompson Valley’s Anabell Gerrard — wrestling for the combined team at Loveland High — overwhelmed the Phoenix’s Claris McCoy, pinning her in 1:34.
9:10 p.m.: Westminster has its first girls’ wrestling champion. At 145 pounds in Class 4A, senior Dakota Hull pinned Chatfield’s Ryne Hickey. Both girls entered the night undefeated. — Patrick Saunders
8:02 p.m.: A fight broke out in the stands at Ball Arena. Security quickly came over and the conflict subsided. It was in a section filled with Brighton fans. There were a handful of fan ejections as a result. — Kyle Newman
7:19 p.m.: Pomona junior 140-pounder Timberly Martinez is one win away from a four-peat in Class 5A. Martinez stuck Sophia Flores of Discovery Canyon in the second period to claim her third state wrestling gold. — Patrick Saunders
6:50 p.m.: The Pomona Panthers have this thing about wrapped up … again.
In a highly anticipated showdown at Class 5A 144 pounds, Pomona’s Derek Barrows edged Ponderosa’s Mikey Lopez in a tight match, 4-2. That will pretty much seal Pomona’s seventh straight Class 5A title, one short of tying Ponderosa’s big school record of eight straight from 2003-10. — Kyle Newman
6:38 p.m.: Pueblo East already locked up the boys Class 4A title, the program’s third in the last four seasons.
At 132 pounds, sophomore Deven Lopez cruised to a 9-4 decision over Palisade sophomore Kadin Mulford. That put Lopez halfway to the four-peat after a crown at 126 last year, despite wrestling this weekend with a ruptured tendon in his right middle finger.
“We’re just gritty, hard workers who don’t come from much, but we’re willing to go out there and put our all into it,” Lopez said. “That’s what matters most at the end of the day. … People have said I should be a four-timer since before I got to high school. Everyone expects so much out of me and I want to prove them right.”
In the last year, Lopez took third at Fargo Nationals in Greco-Roman, fifth at high school nationals in Virginia Beach, and third at folkstyle nationals.
“I’m looking to do even greater things this upcoming summer,” Lopez said. — Kyle Newman
6:16 p.m.: In Class 5A girls 115 pounds, Prairie View’s Jaydin Cuevas completed a perfect 43-0 season with a second-period technical fall over Adam City’s Phoebe Gutierrez. A 16-0 victory, just as dominating as her season. — Patrick Saunders
6:06 p.m.: Deven Lopez is halfway half. The Pueblo East sophomore took care of business in the Class 4A 132-pound final, putting together a commanding 9-4 victory over Palisade’s Kadin Mulford. That’s two state titles at 132 in two seasons for Lopez, and the Eagles are closing in on the Class 4A boys title. — Matt Schubert
5:55 p.m.: We’ve got another three-time champ. Jefferson’s Samuel Rosales didn’t wait long to do it either, pinning Alameda International’s Anthony Torrez in 1:35. — Matt Schubert
5:48 p.m.: A big sequence is coming up here in the Class 5A boys title chase.
Pomona and Ponderosa both scored wins in their first individual finals. The next three matches feature Jaylen Burge (Ponderosa) vs. Elijah Banks (Pine Creek) at 132, Angel Serrano (Pomona) vs. Chance Mathews (Cherokee Trail) at 138 and Derek Barrows (Pomona) vs. Michael Lopez Jr. (Ponderosa) at 144. The 5A title might be decided in these next three matches. — Matt Schubert
5:38 p.m.: Traven Sharon’s quest for the four-peat is complete. The Fowler senior pinned Meeker sophomore Koy Weber in the second period to become Colorado’s 35th four-time state champion. — Kyle Newman
5:32 p.m.: Mountain View’s Isaiah Harrison is now a three-time state champion, capping his career with a sparkling 53-0 season and 21-3 tech fall over Palisade’s Teagan Young in the finals. Harrison, a Wyoming commit, said his dedication to the sport changed after taking fifth at state as a freshman.
“My freshman year, I wasn’t quite mature yet and I didn’t take the sport very seriously,” Harrison said. “… I also wasn’t taking school very seriously at the time and didn’t have the best grades. My coaches talked to me and really motivated me to do better in school, and told me that wrestling could take me places if I bought in. So I did.”
After Harrison’s first state title, he took second at Fargo Nationals that summer, and he hasn’t looked back. He is Mountain View’s first three-time champion. — Kyle Newman
5:04 p.m.: The top-ranked wrestler in the entire tournament, Doherty’s Katey Valdez, pinned her way to her second state championship, taking down Chatfield’s Lola Gonzales in 4:35 to finish her senior season as the Class 5A girls 105-pound champion at 40-1. Valdez celebrated her title with a backflip — something she did it in practice all the time.
The one wrestler to beat her? That would be Bennett freshman Emma Faczak, who won a state title of her own a few mats over by defeating Canon City’s Piper Montoya, 8-1, in the Class 4A girls 105-pound bracket. — Matt Schubert
4:54 p.m.: One of the questions inside Ball Arena this weekend: Could someone last a minute with Pomona sophomore Justice Gutierrez? The answer: Nope.
The 100-pounder pinned all four of her opponents in less than 60 seconds this week in the Class 5A girls tournament, including a 59-second pin of Widefield’s Vivienne Arellano in Saturday night’s final. That’s title No. 2 for Gutierrez, who’s halfway to joining the four-timers club. — Matt Schubert
4:40 p.m.: And we’re underway here in Ball Arena, with the lightest weights on the mats. You first state champion of the night: Pueblo Central’s Acelyn Duran, who scored a pin in just 47 seconds to secure the Class 4A girls 100-pound title. — Matt Schubert
3:45 p.m.: For the first time in a long time, it appears there will be high drama in the Class 5A boys team title race.
Pomona, which is seeking its seventh straight 5A crown, enters the finals with a slight lead over Ponderosa (213-192), thanks to picking up points in the consolation rounds. The Panthers also have one fewer finalist (5) than Ponderosa (6). That includes a Pomona-v-Ponderosa matchup in the 144-pound bracket, where Derek Barrows will take on Michael Lopez Jr. in what could be an absolute barn-burner.
Suffice it to say, this is gonna be fun. Here’s the top five for each classification after the consolation round…

In case you missed it, we had plenty of coverage from Day 2. The Post’s Patrick Saunders caught up with Pomona girls superstars Justice Gutierrez and Timberly Martinez, who are both climbing rungs toward four-time champion status. Kyle Newman dug into the VomBaurs, one of the preeminent wrestling families in the state of Colorado, and the success of the Sedgwick County/Fleming co-op wrestling program.
